Born and raised in San Antonio, TX, his worldview was forever changed in 1999 with his first trip to New York City. The sprawling metropolis opened his eyes and expanded his mind; suddenly he knew that he could accomplish anything he dared to dream and go anywhere his heart desired. He remains in San Antonio to be near family, and for the legendary breakfast tacos. Kurtis’ passion is exploring the world and having new adventures and experiences. While traveling, he loves to carry only his panoramic film camera with a single lens and tripod in addition to hiking equipment and provisions. He is perhaps best known for photographing portraits and special events with his wife, Marci Madla. In 2017 they combined their individual businesses and re-branded to create something completely new together, Two Sapphires. They offer elegant portraiture and timeless event photography. His wife, Marci, is also a licensed cosmetologist, specializing in hair and makeup for special events and photography. Forever seeking new outlets for their creativity, the dynamic duo also founded an upscale private event catering company, Haute Chef TX.

While attending the University of Texas at San Antonio full-time in pursuit of two degrees in Management Information Systems and Business Management, Kurtis co-founded and managed an online technology publication with nine staff writers as well as an international online advertising network. He has served as Director of IT for a growing dental practice and offers a variety of IT consulting services for small businesses (ranging from research and adoption of a new CRM and training staff to designing and installing the network, server, and workstations for an entire office, website design, and more…).
